Interesting, exciting…..to the edge of wow.
That’s how I would describe my career journey, brought to me by all the people who have touched my life.

I grew up with entrepreneurial parents; my pop was a builder and wood crafter. I remember as a child sitting by the hour watching him work, troweling concrete, pounding nails and sanding wood. He could build anything and was poetry in motion. My mom was a floral designer and had a passion for nature and the outdoors; she taught me creative exploration of flowers and elements of nature. I was born into creativity and have always been wired for the desire to make something from nothing and explore the “what if” of greater things.

The direction started with a B.S. in Art and Education, presenting opportunity for adventure in Australia and numerous locations around the U.S.  This teaching experience seeded a different creativity in me, one that allowed me to show students how to perceive their environment and feelings from a different perspective and transform that into creativity. That approach to helping others “self awake” lead me into art therapy, interacting with severely handicapped youngsters.

The career path took a different direction and in 1983 lead me into interior design consulting: now interacting with people using creativity to transform their environment to reflect their feelings…sounds like the same process with different groups of people to achieve a creative solution: the discovery of self awareness to place.

The principles are unveiled as: color, light, line, shape, form, texture and space.  The mediums used are: furniture, lighting, finishes, accessories, floor and window coverings; the creature comforts. The vehicle that transforms the principles and the mediums into the place that reflects you is communication of feelings.  The creative tool that brings it all together is Gayla Interiors.

Tool + Principles + mediums + feelings = discovery of self awareness to place.

When this process is put into motion, a building structure becomes a meaningful place; your home or your work space.  It now is your space that reflects you.
